I always encourage people to start any design is with the base layer of a rug. This is art for your floor. It's a lot easier to incorporate accent colors that the rug pulls into a room than trying to find a rug that has all the colors you've already purchased in decor. I also cannot emphasize enough that getting a larger rug for a room makes the space feel more luxurious. Too small of a rug, you will end up quickly dwarfing your room.
The image below has the Target moroccan rug in a guest bedroom. I love how this rug really balances out the traditional four poster bed. In this smaller guest room we used a 8x10 rug and it really opens up the space.
The modern style rug from Rugs.com is used underneath this dining table. It helps to segment the room and brings an energetic vibe to what could be a plain area.
